Every sign serves a purpose! For example, a sign may exist to inform customers where to check-in, give directions to the restroom, warn pedestrians about dangerous elements, or communicate a boutique’s unique style. These are just a few examples of how signage is used.
To help achieve these signage goals, sign makers use one (or a combination) of four key design tools. The most common ways to add visual interest to a sign are color, pattern, texture, and shine. Fabricators may choose a brightly colored acrylic, like yellow, for a safety sign. Tactile texture is added to the restroom sign. A bridal shop may use a glitter acrylic, like ColorHues® Glitter, to communicate elegance on their sign. However, there is another simple way to increase the value and enhance the signage goal: dimensional lettering.
Incorporating dimensional lettering into your sign designs brings a level of depth and professionalism that flat signage just can’t match. Whether you're working on storefront signage, interior

Choosing the proper tools for any project is essential for ensuring a good outcome, whether it’s a small job like painting a room or a big job like engraving signage for a new build.
For example, although painting a room with watercolor paints and a small brush would technically get the job done, using paint specifically designed for interiors, a roller brush, and painters’ tape will provide the painter with a much better outcome and in a lot less time.
This same principle can be applied to sign fabrication. Just like choosing the right paint brush, choosing the right engraving bit can be the difference between an efficiently made sign and a slow painful process. Put simply, selecting the right router carving bits will significantly improve your efficiency and quality of work, which means you’ll make more profit.
Understanding the types of rotary engraving, key terminology, and material compatibility will help make choosing the right cutter or bit easy!

Rotary engraving refers to a type of engraving that uses rotating and sometimes non-rotating tools to mark and/or cut into compatible materials. It’s a timeless method of embellishing items and materials, and while it’s a classic form of fabrication, it’s certainly not an outdated technique.
What sets rotary engraving apart is the way material is marked or cut, utilizing a physical bit rather than a beam of light such as with laser technology. In short, rotary engraving differs from other types of engraving because it uses physical contact and removal of the material to carve and sculpt the material rather than a focused laser beam of light to vaporize the material. Physical contact makes the rotary engraving and cutting technique ideal
