There are many choices when it comes to engraving materials and substrates. Most engraving shops offer more than one engraving service, so it’s good to have a reputable and knowledgeable supplier. Some popular material types include, but are certainly not limited to:

  • Plastic Laminates – They are heat bendable, impact and scratch resistant and are an excellent choice for the interior, exterior, ADA and other types of way-finding or egress signage. It is also a common material selection for name badges, legend plates, control panels and other industrial and commercial signage and identification.
  • Metal – Some popular metal substrates include brass, anodized aluminum, and stainless steel.

Note: Metal substrates can be affected by environmental conditions, such as oxidation.

  • Wood – There are numerous wood substrates for engraving. There are all-natural stained woods, faux wood finishes, hardwood veneers and natural solid wood in addition to wooden gifts, home décor, coasters, frames, cutting boards, and many others.
  • Miscellaneous – Leather, cloth, paper, card-stock, slate, stone, and rubber.
