What is sublimation paper?
Sublimation paper is a special type of coated paper designed for sublimation printing, a process that uses heat to transfer dye onto materials like fabric, ceramics, metal, and wood. The paper holds the sublimation ink and, when exposed to heat and pressure, releases the ink as a gas, which then bonds with polyester-coated or polyester-based surfaces.
How do I print on sublimation paper?
- Ensure you have a sublimation printer loaded with sublimation ink—regular ink won’t work.
- Sublimation paper has a printable side (usually brighter or coated). Load it into the printer with this side facing up or down, depending on your printer.
- Use design software (ex. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva) to create or edit your image.
- Mirror (flip) the design so it appears correctly when transferred
- Print onto the coated side of the sublimation paper.
- You’re ready to tape onto your sublimation blank and press!
